Final Results coming soon. MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. The host Central Michigan Chippewas took home the 2018 MAC Gymnastics Championship in front of their home crowd Saturday in Mount Pleasant. CMU posted an overall score of 197.025 to earn their 16th MAC Championship title under head coach Jerry Reighard.
Sydney Williams, Katy Clements, Gianna Plaksa and were named individual MAC Champions for CMU in the Vault, Balance Beam and All-Around, respectively. Western Michigan freshman Stacie Harrison took the title in the Uneven Bars event with a score of 9.925. Abby Fletcher compiled the highest score on the Floor with a 9.

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The final regular season meet of the 2018 season has arrived for the Bowling Green State University gymnastics team. The Falcons will celebrate Senior Day beginning at 2:00 p.m. On Saturday (March 17) when they host Northern Illinois University at venerable Anderson Arena.
The team will honor the accomplishments of, and at the conclusion of the meet. In addition, they will raise awareness about sexual assault by donning teal-accented leotards during the meet. Bowling Green once again improved its Regional Qualifying Score (RQS) last week by posting a 195.400 in a dual meet at Kent State. They remain 40th in the national rankings at 195.235 (+0.115). BGSU remains the only MAC team to register a 194+ in every meet this season but will need to improve even further to bolster their hopes of qualifying for the NCAA Regionals. HEAD COACH KERRIE TURNER SAYS. SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION Northern Illinois sports an 8-11 record and a 3-2 mark against MAC opponents in 2018.
They are also 4-2 in dual meets. After starting with losses to Kent State and Central Michigan, NIU has since defeated Eastern Michigan, Illinois-Chicago, Ball State, and Western Michigan. However, last weekend, the Huskies ended a streak of five straight meets with a 195+ when they managed only 194.400 and finished third in a quad meet against Illinois, Illinois State, and UIC. The Falcons overtook the Huskies in the national rankings last week. Currently, NIU sits in 41st with a 195.210 RQS. The team is led by three-time MAC Gymnast of the Week Ashley Potts and four-time MAC Specialist of the Week Anna Martucci.
Potts ranks third in the MAC for RQS on vault (9.825) and fourth on bars (9.860). She is also second among all-arounders (39.250). Martucci's floor exercise RQS is currently second in the MAC (9.895).
NIU head coach Sam Morreale is in his seventh season with the team. THE ALL-TIME SERIES BGSU leads the all-time series against the Huskies 13-10, and they are 7-3 at home. NIU won the most recent meeting, held last season in DeKalb, Ill., 194.875-192.875. However, when these two teams last met at Anderson Arena, the Falcons made history. They scored 49s in all four events and finished the meet with a school-record 196.500. That score helped vault the Falcons to their first NCAA Regionals berth in 25 years.
Bowling Green has won two consecutive meets against NIU at Anderson, including a 194.825-193.075 decision in 2014. The all-time series between the two schools dates back to 1978; the Falcons won that meet in DeKalb. LAST TIME OUT Bowling Green scored 195+ for the third straight meet, powered by a 's school-record-tying 9.95 on beam, last weekend in a dual meet at Kent State. Mitchell's event victory was the second of her senior season and the 14th of her career. She completed the all-around and tied her personal record with a 39.125. Meanwhile, added a vault win (9.875) and another 9.900 on the floor.
As a team, BGSU's 195.400 was tied for their second-best score of the season. They set a season-best 49.225 on floor and posted a 49+ on beam for the second straight meet. However, the team could not overcome Kent State's outstanding effort, as the Golden Flashes scored a 196.625. BGSU dropped to 4-13 overall and 2-3 in the MAC. THE POST-SEASON APPROACHES Regional Qualifying Scores (RQS) were be released for the first time in 2018 on Monday, Feb. Those scores are used to determine the teams and individuals that advance to the six NCAA regional meets.
The top 36 teams by RQS qualify for the reginoals. Among individuals who are not on qualifying teams, the top four all-around gymnasts and the top two athletes from all four events are selected from each of the six regions. BGSU's team RQS (195.235) is squarely on the bubble for entry to the NCAA Regionals. The Falcons are currently ranked 40th nationally and are 0.285 behind Arizona, who sits in the 36th and final spot for Regionals qualification. In addition, several individuals are in position to earn at-large Regional berths, if necessary. Would currently qualify in vault (9.880), beam (9.855), and floor (9.885).
(9.865, beam) would also qualify. Is currently in first-alternate position on beam (9.825). In addition, on vault and both and on floor are in contention. RQS is determined by taking the top six scores (at least three of which must be from 'away' meets). The best score is eliminated, and the next five scores are averaged. ELITE SCHEDULING BGSU began the 2018 season with the MAC's hardest schedule and the 29th most difficult nationally.
This is the second straight year that the team's schedule ranks in the top 30. The Falcons face four teams currently in the nation's top 25 (#7 Michigan, #15 Denver, #19 BYU, #24 Ohio State). The Falcons compete against four other top-36 teams: Illinois, CMU, Kent State, and New Hampshire. All of BGSU's opponents are currently in the top 50. 2018 SENIOR CLASS Bowling Green features three seniors during the 2018 season. This year's class includes (Rochester Hills, Mich.), (Bangor, N. Ireland), and (London, England).
Goniwiecha and Mitchell are both in their fourth year at BGSU; McPeak is in her second year after transferring from the University of Michigan. Mitchell continued her elite level work on the balance beam last week by matching her own school record of 9.950.
She has a 9.8+ in six straight meets and a 9.85+ in four of her last five. In addition, she tied her personal record on floor (9.850), vault (9.575), and all-around (39.125). Her beam RQS leads the team and ranks 17th in the region and 54th nationally. She also enjoys a 9.800 RQS on floor and 9.785 on bars. Mitchell's beam victory is her second of the season.
She now has 14 career wins and 43 career top-three finishes. McPeak achieved a pair of 9.775s on beam and floor to help the Falcons' lineup achieve 49s in both events. She has been a consistent performer on the beam throughout 2018, scoring 9.775 or better in ten of 11 meets and reaching 9.850 three times.
Her floor exercise score last weekend was her best since Jan. McPeak owns a 9.825 beam RQS; like Mitchell, that ranks in the top 20 in the region and top 100 nationally. She would currently serve as the first alternate for the NCAA Regionals on beam. Goniwiecha returned to action for the first time in nearly two years by performing on the uneven bars against Utah State. Since then, she has performed in every meet on vault or bars. Last week, she competed in both events and had her most productive outing, earning a season-best 9.725 on vault, as well as a 9.625 on bars.
NO SUCH THING AS A SOPHOMORE SLUMP continued to excel in multiple events last weekend at Kent State. She tied a season-best with her third 9.900 of 2018 in the floor exercise. That was her eighth 9.9+ of the season and the 11th of her career. She also earned a 9.875 to win the vault competition. That victory is her eighth in 11 meets on the vault this season. It gives her 15 wins in 2018 and 27 in her career. Overall, she's finished in the top three an amazing 45 times in two years (26 in 2018).
East has earned 9.800 or above in 29 of 37 events (.784) in 2018 and 57 of 69 (.826) in her career. Her RQS scores are in the top 100 nationally in three events: vault (24th), floor (44th), and beam (69th). OUR ROSE HAS NO THORNS BGSU junior 's is showing that she is fully propared for postseason action.
Her four best floor exercise scores of the season have been registered in the last four meets, all 9.825 or better. She began with a 9.875 at Elevate The Stage, followed by a pair of 9.825s.
Last weekend, she added a 9.850 at Kent State to help BGSU to a season-best 49.225 on floor. She has improved her RQS to 9.815, which ranks third on the team in her event. She has earned at least 9.750 on the floor in 19 of her last 20 meets, with 14 of those scores reaching 9.8 or better. IT FEELS LIKE AUGUST-INE IN WINTER has become invaluable to the Falcons in her sophomore season. She has completed three events in all but one meet and currently leads BGSU with a 9.805 RQS on bars.
She is also second on the team with a 9.825 floor RQS. Last weekend at Kent State, she has three counting scores, earning a PR-tying 9.850 on floor, 9.775 on beam, and 9.700 on bars. The 9.850 was her ninth 9.8+ in her last 16 events. She has earned 9.75+ in 21 of 31 events in 2018, including 13 of her last 16. FANTASTIC FRESHMEN Four members of BGSU's 2018 freshman class have been weekly contributors early in the season.
Has spent much of the season as the lead-off for the Falcons on vault, beam, and floor. She has earned a 9.750 or above in at least one event nine times in 11 meets. Most recently, she earned the second-best beam score of her young career with a 9.800 at Kent State.
She also posted a 9.725 on vault, her best mark since a 9.750 at Denver. (vault) and (bars) have also been lineup fixtures; Logan has started on bars in nine of 11 meets, while Lawson started on vault in the first seven before suffering an injury. Alex Fochler is a bars specialist.
She returned from a hand injury at Illinois to record a 9.750; she has scored that or better in four of her eight meets, including a 9.875 at Denver. PUTTING THE STUDENT IN STUDENT-ATHLETE Falcon gymnasts value excellence in the classroom just as much as they do in the gym. Last July, BGSU was recognized as having the 14th-best team GPA nationally (3.6065) and 14 of the 20 Falcons (70 percent) were named NACGC/W Scholastic All-America. Five members of the team were recognized as Academic All-MAC following the 2017 season, and earned CoSIDA First Team Academic All-American honors. She concluded her career as an Academic All-American in two straight years. 2018 COACHING STAFF BGSU head coach returns for her 11th year at the helm of the Falcons.
Is the Associate Head Coach and in his fourth season with the team. The Falcons have two new additions to the coaching staff for the 2018 season. Is the team's new assistant coach, while will serve as a volunteer assistant. Beucler is a former student-athlete at the University of Kentucky; Richardson competed as a gymnast at West Virginia University and most recently served as a graduate assistant at the University of Toledo.
