Hello, I have the same mainboard but I get this error 'waiting for root device' at startup, I dont know why!! What is your computer specification please. Sometimes it restart and login in a second but all the time show that error.

I have a Intel 954GCCR motherboard with 1GB DDR2 and a 160GB Maxtor SATA drive, the DVD drive that I use to install OSX86 10.4.8 is connected to the PATA side of the motherboard. I've partitioned the SATA drive in three equal partitions to have XP, Dream Linux and this Mac OSX86 install on the drive. I have a GRUB boot manager running to boot the XP and Dream Linux, and have added the Mac OSX86 to GRUB.

When I first started out, I had the Mac OSX86 on the second partition of the drive as a primary partition. The Linux and Windows installs were also setup as primary partitions, too, but I started out with OSX86 before the other OSs went on. When I loaded the OSX86 install on the drive - no ther OSs loaded at that time - I booted from the DVD, erased the partition where the install would reside (disutil eraseVolume 'Journaled HFS+' OSX86 disk0s2), the disk erased fine, the instraller saw the disk partition setup, allowed the installer to do its work - including checking the DVD, which it did and checked okay - installed 10.4.8 (looked good while it was installing) and at the VERY end of the install I clicked on the REBOOT button and waited for what seemed like eternity for the system to reboot. After about 1/2 hour I did a forced reboot. At that point, the system came up with 'HFS+ error' (or something to that effect). Got out my laptop, and looked up this error.

Did the flags trick to the installation. Same thing, HFS+ error. Tried a few more tricks from the newsgroups - no joy. I finally gave up and installed XP (on the first partition) and Dream Linux on the third.

At that point I had a GRUB bootloader and was able to boot the XP and Dream Linux partitions in great shape. Not the OSX86, though - same error. Now I sit in the same situation - a partition with OSX86 loaded on it that cannot boot for some reason - everything else working okay. I'm now downloading 10.4.9 to see if there's hope I can make that one work. Gee, the tiger 10.4.4 install on VMWare works great under XP, but it's just not the same as a native install. Anyone with any ideas on what I can do to make this work? Anything I missed during all the installs on my Intel 945GCCR system?
